On the Day After, Monroe Stops Poly

One day after Poly High knocked off conference-leading North Hollywood, Monroe’s Ryan Ennis scattered 10 hits and the Vikings surprised the Parrots, 5-2, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference baseball game Thursday at Poly.
Monroe (6-12, 1-8 in conference play) snapped an eight-game conference losing streak.
John Emmanuel singled in the second inning to drive in both runs for Poly (12-10, 7-2), which got two hits from Gabriel Gomez but stranded nine runners.
North Hollywood 4, Reseda 0--Abraham Montiel pitched a five-hitter and struck out 10 for the Huskies (17-3, 8-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at North Hollywood.
Only two runners advanced past second base for the Regents (6-9, 3-6).
Jerrit Redlich had two hits, scored twice and had four stolen bases for North Hollywood.
Sylmar 8, Canoga Park 4--Miguel Flores had three hits and drove in three runs for the Spartans (12-6, 9-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Lanark Park.
Kevin Carlsen had three hits and drove in a run for Canoga Park (4-11, 3-6).
Grant 7, Van Nuys 6--Bryan Levine (2-3) allowed eight hits, two earned runs and one walk for the Lancers (8-11, 5-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys (0-9, 0-13).
Granada Hills 12, Birmingham 1--Dan Seidman had a bases-loaded triple and a run-scoring single for the Highlanders (5-13, 1-8) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.
Jon Bringuier (1-4) pitched a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking one, and Dan Frisbee drove in four runs with three hits.
Birmingham is 13-10, 5-4.
Taft 6, Cleveland 5--Jason Spector’s infield hit scored his brother, Mitch, with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Toreadors (13-6, 6-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft.
The Toreadors trailed, 5-4, with two out and none on before Yaron Peters singled. Peters, who had three hits, scored on a two-base error after a single by Mitch Spector. Cleveland is 8-9, 4-4.
El Camino Real 9, San Fernando 3--Kurt Birkins was three for three with two home runs, including a grand slam, for the Conquistadores (11-7, 6-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at El Camino Real.
Birkins hit a solo home run in the third to break a 2-2 tie.
Verdugo Hills 9, Marshall 8--Jerry Brehme, who had four hits, singled home the tying and winning runs in the sixth for the Dons (8-1, 7-1) in a Northern Conference game at Verdugo Hills.
