Santa Monica’s sixth annual citywide festival celebrating the environment and the arts kicks off this weekend.
“Festival 97: Celebrating Our Community Roots” begins today at Clover Park with an opening procession at 11 a.m.
The day includes entertainment, storytelling and environmental workshops. In the afternoon, the city will present the 1997 Santa Monica Environmental Sustainable Quality Award to local businesses that have worked to preserve the economy, community and environment.
As part of the celebration, students have also created ecologically themed artwork for display at the Community Focus Gallery in Santa Monica Place. The festival will end April 26 with a day of art workshops, dancing and picnicking at Virginia Avenue Park.
