Cleveland Catches Break on Kennedy Drops, 8-3

Kennedy High committed seven errors in the final two innings to help Cleveland beat ace Jon Garland, 8-3, Tuesday in a North Valley League baseball game at Kennedy.
Cleveland scored a run on a dropped fly ball to tie the score, 3-3, in the top of the sixth and the Cavaliers (10-9, 6-4 in conference play) added five runs on six errors in the seventh.
“We couldn’t play catch in the last two innings,” said Coach Manny Alvarado of Kennedy (15-8, 7-3).
Garland (5-2) allowed 10 hits, struck out 10 and walked one.
Cleveland’s Mike Schultz (2-3) scattered seven hits, struck out eight and walked two.
Birmingham 6, El Camino Real 4--Billy McGrath had a run-scoring single and Francisco Gutierrez a squeeze-bunt single in a four-run sixth inning for the Braves (14-10, 6-4) in a North Valley League game at Birmingham.
Senior right-hander Alberto Flores (7-2) pitched an eight-hitter with six strikeouts.
Shaun Fishman (4-4) of El Camino Real (11-8, 6-4) struck out seven.
Reseda 5, Canoga Park 3--Leo Rosales pitched a three-hitter and struck out 10 for the Regents in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.
Alfredo Saenz was three for three with three RBIs for the Regents (7-9, 4-6). Saenz hit a solo home run in the fifth to break a 3-3 tie.
Sylmar 4, North Hollywood 2--Chris Cervantes pitched a five hitter and Carlos Gonzalez had a two-run double to carry the Spartans (13-6, 10-0) in an East Valley League game at Sylmar. The victory moved Sylmar two games ahead of North Hollywood (18-4, 8-2).
Calabasas 7, Moorpark 1--Matt Jackson threw only 76 pitches pitched a three-hitter for the Coyotes (17-2, 8-0) in a Frontier League game at Moorpark.
Brian Fatur had three hits and became the school leader with 84 in his career.
Hueneme 8, Buena 7--Pedro Cervantes hit a run-scoring single for the Vikings in the eighth inning of a Channel League game at Hueneme.
Jess Sanchez (6-1) scattered eight hits and struck out nine for the Vikings (13-4, 7-0).
Mario Robledo of Buena (6-5-1, 2-4-1) hit a run-scoring single to tie it, 7-7, in the seventh.
Rio Mesa 5, San Marcos 3--Jake Kor (5-2) pitched a five-hitter, striking out five for the Spartans (15-2, 6-1) in a Channel League game at Rio Mesa.
Crescenta Valley 5, Pasadena 3--Chris Oliver had two hits and drove in one run for the Falcons (10-7, 6-2) in a Pacific League game.
Glendale 6, Arcadia 2--Jon Walton (5-3) had two hits and two RBIs, and pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Dynamiters (12-5, 4-4) in a Pacific League game at Glendale.
Valencia 7, Canyon 3--Brian Otis had a run-scoring single to highlight a five-run seventh inning for Valencia (11-7, 4-4) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.
Notre Dame 3, St. Francis 1--Kevin Stromsborg hit a two-run single and Kevin Jerkins pitched a three-hitter for the Knights (14-5, 4-1) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.
Chatsworth 8, Taft 2--Ismael Marin pitched a three-hitter and struck out six for the Chancellors (12-7, 7-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.
