Adams Goes Short and Long as Cleveland Wins

Trying to build stamina for the upcoming championship track meets, Cleveland sprinter Deywine Adams pulled off an unusual double Friday for the Cavaliers in a 71-42 Northwest Valley Conference boys’ victory at San Fernando.
Adams won the 200 meters, his specialty, in 23.4 seconds and came back to win the 800 in 2:10.6.
Adams ran on the victorious 400-meter relay team for Cleveland (5-2, 5-2 in conference meets), which was clocked in 44.6.
Monroe 94, Canoga Park 28--City Section cross-country champion Ali Benmohamed was a triple winner for the Vikings (6-0, 6-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Monroe--clocking 2:03.2 for 880 yards, 4:29.4 in the mile and 11:14.8 in the two mile.
Reseda 74, Van Nuys 52--Jaamal Washington won at 100 meters in 11.0 and 220 yards in 22.6, and helped win the 440 and mile relays for the Regents (4-2, 4-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Reseda.
Tony DeLaTorre won the 120 high hurdles in 16.4 and the triple jump at 39-9 1/2, and ran on the 440 team that timed 44.6.
GIRLS’ TRACK
Reseda 79, Van Nuys 38--Sisters Princess Acacio and Precy Acacio combined to win three individual events and were part of a mile relay victory for the Regents (3-3, 3-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Reseda.
Princess Acacio won the 880 in 2:36.0 and the mile in 5:52.0. Precy Acacio won the 440 in 1:07.9.
Granada Hills 70, Kennedy 57--Freshman Jessica Cosby clocked 12.5 in the 100 meters and put the shot 42-2 for the host Highlanders (3-3, 3-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet. She ran a leg on the winning 400-meter relay team that was timed in 51.9.
Bree Akesson was a triple winner for the Golden Cougars (2-4, 2-4), winning the 800 meters in 2:38.0, the 1,600 in 5:46.0 and the 3,200 in 12:23.0.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Campbell Hall 16, Crossroads 2--Adam Zunder (34-2) won three sets at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Josh Glass and James Chun (41-1) also swept for the Vikings (14-0, 5-0) in a Delphic League match.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Chatsworth d. Cleveland, 15-6, 15-6, 15-2--Stephen Wiessner had 14 kills for the Chancellors (8-4, 7-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Highland d. Palmdale, 15-9, 12-15, 15-10, 15-9--Tom Haight had 24 kills for the Bulldogs (9-1, 6-0) in a Golden League match.
Westlake d. Channel Islands, 15-8, 15-1, 15-8--Kevin Nagler had 14 kills for the Warriors (7-4, 7-2) in a Marmonte League match.
