CANOGA PARK — A portable classroom at a junior high school suffered $25,000 damage in a fire Sunday afternoon, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The bungalow on the campus of John A. Sutter Middle School, 7330 Winnetka Ave., was reported on fire just before 1:30 p.m., according to spokesman Jim Wells of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within 15 minutes of their arrival, he said.
Fire officials estimated damage to the building at $20,000 and the contents at $5,000, Wells said. Investigators had not yet spoken with school officials about what classes were taught in the bungalow, but science equipment was found in the ruins, Wells said.
There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the blaze was under investigation, Wells said.
