Irvine, Sophomore; Swimming
Beard stepped out of her normal routine and helped the Vaqueros win the Southern Section Division I team title by winning the 100 freestyle in 51.86 seconds, the fastest in the county this season. She also won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.10) and was named swimmer of the meet with teammate Danielle DeAlva.
Joyce Cabuhat/Badminton
* Magnolia, senior. Won the girls’ singles title at the section individual championships, defeating Alhambra’s Stella Ng, 11-3, 11-9.
Sarah Higham/Track and field
* Mission Viejo, junior. Cleared 11 feet 9 inches, the best county mark this season by seven inches, during the Division II preliminaries.
Erica Sorgi/Diving
* Capistrano Valley, freshman. Won the Division I title (568.10 points), breaking the 13-year-old section record held by Wendy Wyland (554.50).
