Mozart Camerata Sets 2-Site Season

The Mozart Camerata’s 1997-98 season will begin Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre with Ami Porat conducting Beethoven’s Violin Concerto (with soloist Haroutune Bedelian) and Schubert’s Symphony No. 2. The program will be repeated Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.
The ensemble will return to the Irvine Barclay on Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. to play the “Il Re Pastore” Overture, the violin rondo from the “Haffner” Serenade and the “Prague” Symphony, all by Mozart; and Felice Giardini’s Violin Concerto in G. The soloist will be Misha Lefkowitz. That program will be repeated at St. Andrew’s Jan. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
The remaining concerts will take place at 4:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s only:
* Oct. 26: Trumpet concertos by Telemann and Vivaldi with soloist Ray Burkhart; Elgar’s String Serenade; Bartok’s Divertimento.
* March 22: Cimarosa’s “Traci Amanti” Overture; Henri Gustave Casadesus’ Viola Concerto in C minor (formerly attributed to J.C. Bach) with soloist Simon Oswell; Hindemith’s “Trauermusik”; Michael Haydn’s Symphony in G.
* May 3: Schubert’s Overture for Strings; Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12, K. 414, with soloist Theo Lieven; Haydn’s Symphony No. 44 (“Trauer”).
Tickets for the Irvine Barclay are $25 to $29 for one concert, $39 to $69 for both. Tickets to the concerts at St. Andrew’s are $23 to $29 each, $99 to $119 for all five. (714) 250-3131.
