Western Pacific Airlines Inc. and Frontier Airlines Inc. declined to comment on published reported that the two Colorado-based carriers are planning to merge in a stock swap. The report in the Colorado Springs Gazette said the merger may be discussed at today’s Western Pacific shareholders meeting. . . . Registry Inc. agreed to buy Renaissance Solutions Inc. for $430 million in stock, expanding its business of providing consultants to help companies with their computer and technology needs. . . . Home Depot Inc. said first-quarter net income rose to $258.8 million, or 53 cents a share, from $195 million, or 41 cents, a year ago. . . . Dayton Hudson Corp. reported first-quarter net income of $126 million, or 55 cents a share, up from $42 million, or 17 cents, a year earlier. . . . AnnTaylor said first-quarter net income rose to $6.48 million, or 25 cents a share, from $1.81 million, or 8 cents, a year ago. . . . US Airways Group Inc., reversing an earlier decision, said it will buy back a portion of the airline’s preferred stock held by British Airways for $126.2 million. The announcement is part of the financial settlement worked out to end the relationship that began four years ago when British Air pumped $400 million into the Arlington, Va.-based carrier to help it survive. US Airways shares rose $2.75 to close at $37.875 on the New York Stock Exchange; American depositary receipts of British Air lost 50 cents to close at $120.
