Ticket Prices

Ticket prices to sporting events are escalating as Mike Smith indicated in his editorial cartoon on May 12. However, they cannot, by themselves, ever be high enough to warrant million-dollar contracts.
The big bucks come from television. Networks pay staggering amounts for the right to telecast the games. These dollars are split among teams involved so they can hire players and coaches.
Companies buy commercial time at ever higher TV rates. Any increases are added to their advertising budgets and then tacked on to the price of the product.
Whether or not you go to the games or even watch television, you pick up the tab when you make that particular purchase.
