The third annual Los Angeles Times/Ventura County Football Coaches Association Football Combine is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today at Rio Mesa High.
A total of 122 players--all high school juniors--are expected to participate in the combine, which is open to the public. Coaches from more than 40 colleges and universities are expected to attend.
Athletes will be tested in the 40-yard dash, the 185-pound bench press, vertical jump and the pro shuttle agility run.
Top players from Southern Section Division III champion Camarillo and Division X champion St. Bonaventure will participate, along with players from Buena, Channel Islands, Hueneme, Moorpark, Newbury Park, Nordhoff, Oak Park, Oxnard, Rio Mesa, Santa Clara, Santa Paula, Thousand Oaks, Ventura and Westlake.
Other events in the region today include:
Minor league baseball: At 7:15 p.m., Modesto at Lancaster.
High school softball: At 3:15 p.m., Southern Section wild-card games: Division I, Highland at Crescenta Valley, Santa Monica at Palmdale; Division V, Oakwood at Campbell Hall, Lancaster Desert Christian at Kern Valley, Milken Community at St. Anthony.
High school swimming: At 3 p.m., City Section finals at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
