Obituaries : Mary E. Coffey; Retired GTE Secretary

Mary Elizabeth Coffey of Ventura, a retired executive secretary for GTE, died Friday in a local care center. She was 79.
Coffey was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Hurley, S.D. She graduated from Hurley High School in 1935 and worked in Sioux Falls, S.D., for about 10 years.
On Jan. 27, 1945, she married William E. Coffey Sr., who was stationed at the Sioux Falls Army Air Field. She moved to Los Angeles in 1946, where her son, William E. Coffey Jr., was born.
For over 30 years, Coffey worked for GTE in Santa Monica.
Family members said she liked cooking and enjoyed being with family and friends.
Coffey is survived by her son, William, of Ventura; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Seeley of London, England.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura. Interment will follow at the Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and before the services Wednesday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.
