GM, Strikers Reach Tentative Settlement

General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers reached a tentative agreement to end a seven-week-old strike that has idled about 3,500 workers at the auto maker’s Oklahoma City assembly plant. Steve Featherston, president of the Local 1999, praised the agreement, which he said negotiators spent 62 hours hammering out, but gave no details of its contents. Calls seeking comment from GM officials were not immediately returned. Employees walked off the job April 4 over health, safety and staffing issues. Production of the Oldsmobile Cutlass and Chevrolet Malibu has been affected.
