Butch Hawking, son of former Simi Valley High basketball Coach Bob Hawking, will be hired as an assistant basketball coach at Cal State Northridge on June 1. Hawking will replace Brian Haloossim, who left Northridge after one season to become basketball coach at Campbell Hall High.
Top Cat: Former El Camino Real softball standout Tami Jones, a freshman at Northwestern, started 49 of 50 games at shortstop for the Wildcats and batted .315.
Covered in Ivy: Chris Cross, a freshman relief pitcher for Columbia University from Notre Dame High, has been selected to the All-Ivy League second team. Cross (2-3) had a 1.90 earned-run average in 14 appearances.
