Latin Music Scene Just Gets Better
Chalk one more up for the Latin music scene when Salon Corona opens its doors in late June. The club is at the old FM Station in North Hollywood.
FM owner Filthy McNasty, who’s been in the nightclub biz for a million years--he once owned the excellent Sunset Strip rock dive the Central (now the Viper Room)--turned the club over to new owners, who are busy transforming the seminal metal joint into an upscale dance and live music spot, with disco, salsa and rock en espan~ol. . . .
Icon Entertainment, club promoters for 12 years, hosted its fourth Ultimate Mansion Pool Party Monday in Bel-Air. On hand to judge the bikini contest were director John Singleton, actor Alan Thicke, members of New Edition and Jodeci, the Clippers’ Charles Outlaw and the New York Jets’ Keyshawn Johnson. Icon hosts a night of R&B; and hip-hop Sundays at the Century Club (10131 Constellation Ave.). Among this week’s 2,000 attendees were model Tyra Banks, Magic Johnson and MTV’s Bill Bellamy. Regular fans include the erstwhile Prince and the current Shaquille O’Neal.
