FRESNO — Rebekah Ann Keller’s dream came true when she was crowned Miss California on Saturday.
“Wow, I can’t believe it,” said Keller, Miss Los Angeles County, moments after being crowned. “It’s just an incredible feeling.”
Keller, 22, beat 44 other contestants from throughout the state by singing a medley of songs that included “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from the film “The Wizard of Oz” and “Somewhere Out There” from “An American Tail.”
She will receive a $10,000 scholarship and is to represent California at the 1997 Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, N.J., in September. She completed her first year as a teacher at a Christian school in Visalia.
