Galaxy update--After winning five in a row in July, the Galaxy has lost two consecutive MLS games in August and the gap between fourth-place Los Angeles and fifth-place San Jose, which has won its last two, has narrowed to four points. The Galaxy and Clash, battling for the final Western Conference playoff berth, play at the Rose Bowl on Sunday. Los Angeles has given up only 1.36 goals per game, best in the league, but the defense was torn apart by D.C. United in a 4-2 loss in Washington on Saturday. Defender Robin Fraser missed that game because of a groin strain and remains sidelined. Forwards Jose Botello (right groin strain) and Cobi Jones (right hip strain) are listed as probable, as is midfielder Chris Armas, who aggravated his left ankle sprain Saturday.

Revolution update--Slumping New England has lost four MLS games in a row and six consecutive matches overall, counting a friendly and a U.S. Open Cup game. The Revolution’s 3-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Mile High Stadium in Denver was the ninth time it has been shut out this season. Coach Thomas Rongen’s squad has scored only one goal during its last 379 MLS minutes and the four-game losing streak is the longest in team history.
