Perkin-Elmer to Purchase PerSeptive

Analytical instrument maker Perkin-Elmer said it agreed to buy PerSeptive Biosystems, another maker of analytical instruments for the biotechnology market, for about $360 million. Under terms of the transaction, Norwalk, Conn.-based Perkin-Elmer would pay an equivalent of $13 a share and PerSeptive shareholders would get 0.1665 share of Perkin-Elmer stock for each of their shares, the Framingham, Mass.-based company said in a statement. The companies said they expect the deal to close by the end of the year. Perkin-Elmer gained 63 cents to close at $78.69 on the New York Stock Exchange. PerSeptive added $1.81 to close at $12.44 on Nasdaq.
