Grants Awarded to 8 Jewish Programs

The Jewish Federation/Valley Alliance has awarded grants totaling $43,700 to eight educational and social service programs sponsored by area Jewish community groups.
The Incentive Regional Allocation grants will be used for numerous support programs for the unemployed, aged and disabled as well as for programs promoting Jewish education, history and culture, said Shoshana Hirsh, director of planning and allocations for the organization.
Grant recipients include:
Community Jewish Book Month Festival, a 10-day event beginning Dec. 4 that will explore Jewish heritage through the arts, books and cultural events. The festival is sponsored by West Valley Jewish Community Center, B’nai B’rith Youth Organization and Finegood Arts Council of the Jewish Federation/Valley Alliance.
Life After Layoff, a program offering job-search skills and counseling, sponsored by Jewish Family Service and Jewish Vocational Service.
Yom Limud (Day of Learning), a daylong program showcasing educational opportunities offered by agencies affiliated with the Jewish Federation/Valley Alliance, sponsored by the Bureau of Jewish Learning.
Educational Forums, numerous programs for Jewish parents of young children, sponsored by the Bureau of Jewish Education.
Families in Transition: Workshops for Success, a program to support families facing divorce and separation, sponsored by Conejo Valley Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family Service.
Programs for Seniors and Their Families in the Conejo Valley assists residents dealing with aging parents, depression and Alzheimer’s disease, sponsored by Jewish Family Service.
Specialized Transportation for the Disabled and Elderly, a transportation-assistance program sponsored by Jewish Family Service.
Jewish Theater Troupe, which will create performances based on Jewish holiday stories, sponsored by Jewish students at Pierce and Valley colleges.
