Poetry on the Internet

TIMES STAFF WRITER

For poets dying to be read, a recent online venture by a tiny Anaheim publishing house offers the perfect outlet.

Earlier this month, Poets International Society launched its poetry “wall” on the World Wide Web and invited writers to post their words.

“Talented or not, the important thing is to help people realize that poetry remains a viable art form,” said Poets founder Kavi Singh, whose company recently released its first title, “Reflections of the Heart: A Collection of Beautiful Poems.”

The company initially solicited submissions from its own stable of writers. But thanks to a word-of-mouth buzz, other Net visitors soon were submitting their own sonnets and haiku.

So far, nearly 60 poems have been posted. Many of the pieces are from writers in the United States, but several come from Australia, England and Canada.

“There aren’t too many forums for new poets. We just want to create a place for people to share their literary creations with the rest of the world,” Singh said.

And don’t forget those nifty marketing possibilities. Singh has built a link between the poetry wall and Amazon.com With a simple mouse click, visitors can pop by the online bookstore and pick up a copy of “Reflections of the Heart.”
