Dune Buggy Flips, Killing Woman, Son

OCEANO DUNES, Calif. — A dune buggy rolled over Saturday, killing a mother and her 7-year-old son, a state park ranger said Sunday.
Deanne Michelle Setterlund, 36, of Ceres, and her son Shannon were killed after the vehicle crested a 30-foot sand dune, became airborne and overturned, said Juventino Ortiz, supervising ranger at the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Park near Pismo Beach.
Setterlund’s husband, Brian, was driving. He and his 6-year-old daughter, Melissa, sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
The accident was the first involving fatalities at the park this year, Ortiz said.
Mother and son were wearing seat belts. The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
