Channel 4 sportscaster Fred Roggin escaped with minor injuries but his car was totaled in an accident near the NBC studios in Burbank on Friday night.
Roggin who had just finished the 11 p.m. newscast, was at the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Hollywood Way and was about to enter the 134 Freeway when his car was hit by another car.
He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, suffering from a separated shoulder and a laceration under his left eye. He was treated and released.
Roggin said Sunday that police told him the air bag in his car saved him from more serious injuries. He also said that if he had been a foot farther out into the intersection he would have been hit broadside on the driver’s side, which could have been fatal.
“I’m very lucky,” Roggin said from his home in Northridge. “I’m pretty stiff but OK. I do want to say thanks to the Burbank police and all the people that came to help me.”
Roggin said he did not know when he would be back on the air, and that he would probably work on his year-end special for a while. His national syndicated show, “Fred and Arthel,” is on hiatus.
