Dispute Over New Baseball Field to Be Discussed
- Share via
A community meeting is scheduled tonight to discuss development and control of the newly completed Elysian Park baseball field where Northeast Los Angeles Little League holds games.
The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks will hold the meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Grace E. Simmons Lodge, 1025 Elysian Park Drive.
The field was built on city property overlooking Dodger Stadium that was once a garbage dump operated by the city Sanitation Department.
Little League officials and supporters have argued with city recreation officials over the field’s use since the idea of a Little League field in Elysian Park was suggested in 1995. Joe and Cathy Molina, the Highland Park couple who spearheaded the Little League effort, say the field should be used for youth baseball and that Little League activities should have priority.
As a city facility, recreation officials counter, the Bishop Canyon field should be open to other activities such as adult baseball leagues.
