Brown Key to Chapman’s Fast Start

The Chapman women’s basketball team is off to a quick start, heading into its home game Saturday against Cal Lutheran. The Panthers have won their first three games and one of the big reasons is the torrid shooting of 5-foot-10 forward Lyndsay Brown.
Brown, a junior from Esperanza High, is shooting 78% from the field (28 of 36) and leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 22.7 points and seven rebounds per game. She’s even shooting better from the field than from the free-throw line (63%).
But Brown isn’t the only one producing. Everyone is contributing to a defense that has limited opponents to 39% shooting from the field and Chapman is averaging 82 points, shooting 55% from the field.

More Hoops: The Chapman men’s basketball team has started 3-1 and will play at the Redlands tournament this weekend.
The Concordia men’s team is 4-1 and plays at Pomona Pitzer Saturday and returns home to play Christian Heritage next Wednesday.
The Southern California College men’s team, which plays 10 of its first 11 games on the road, improved to 2-3 with a 91-89 victory over La Verne Tuesday but will have the closest thing to a home game Monday when it plays Pacific Christian at Cal State Fullerton.
The SCC women’s team also has a local road game this week, playing at Pepperdine, led by Coach Mark Trakh, formerly of Brea Olinda High.
