Nellie Herrera Reyes; Mother of 9 Children

Nellie Herrera Reyes of Santa Paula, who raised nine children and had 21 grandchildren, died Friday after a lengthy illness. She was 71.
Reyes was a member of the congregation at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Santa Paula.
She was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Arizona. As an adult she raised her family in Santa Paula, where all of her living children still reside.
She is survived by daughters Rosemary Rabago, Lupe Alcantar, Lisa Perez and Arlene Reyes; sons Paul, Tommy, Jerry and Chris Reyes; sisters Concha Garcia of San Jose, Rachel Reyes of Ventura, and Jenny Flores of Santa Paula; brothers Raymond Herrera, Sabas Herrera and Michael Herrera, all of Santa Paula; 21 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation is scheduled Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary in Santa Paula, which is handling the arrangements. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Sebastian Catholic Churh, and a Mass will be said at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
