David Fresco; Blacklisted Actor Rebuilt Career

David Fresco, 87, a blacklisted character actor who resurrected his career in the 1960s. After finding his stage legs in New York productions of “Once Upon a Tailor” and “Bell for Adano,” Fresco moved to Los Angeles and began his film career in 1949. His early movies included “The Setup,” “Inherit the Wind” and the Academy Award winner “Marty.” But in 1956 he was cast, then pulled from the film “You Can’t Run Away From It” because he refused to name names before the House Un-American Activities Committee. Nearly a decade later, Fresco resumed his career on television. He appeared in such popular series as “Bewitched,” “Get Smart,” “Hill Street Blues,” “X-Files” and “Murder One.” Recent films have included “Liar Liar” and “The Little Princess.” On July 18 in Los Angeles of cancer.
