BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake jolted eastern San Diego County on Friday night and was felt about 40 miles away at the Padres baseball game, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage, authorities said.
The 8:14 p.m. quake occurred 10 miles north of sparsely populated Borrego Springs, officials said.
Seismologists at Caltech in Pasadena and the U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was not an aftershock.
At Qualcomm Stadium, where the San Diego Padres were playing the New York Mets, fans stood up when the quake struck in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Borrego Springs is near the border of San Diego County and Imperial County, about 40 miles northeast of San Diego.
