Two O.C. Teams Top-Seeded in Volleyball

Newport Harbor and Ocean View are the top-seeded teams in their divisions in pairings announced Sunday for the state girls’ volleyball tournament.
The first round of the Southern California playoffs is Tuesday. The state finals are Dec. 6 at Cypress College.
Newport Harbor (20-2), top-seeded in Division I, won the Southern Section Division I-AA championship Saturday and will host San Diego Mt. Carmel (30-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Marina (18-2), which toppled the top-ranked team in the state to win its first section volleyball championship in school history Saturday, is in Newport Harbor’s half of the draw. Marina will play at Central Section champion Clovis Buchanan (31-1), the fourth-seeded team.
Mater Dei (21-2), which lost to Marina in the Southern Section Division I-A title match, will play at San Diego champion Poway (26-2).
In Division III, Ocean View (17-1), which defeated Torrance Bishop Montgomery to win the Southern Section Division III-A title, is top-seeded and will host Central Section runner-up Exeter (12-4).
Also in Division III, Corona del Mar (13-7), which defeated La Habra (14-4) in the Southern Section Division III-AA final Saturday, will host San Diego Section champion La Jolla (28-3). La Habra will play at Oakhurst Yosemite (18-5), the Central Section champion.
In Division II, Santa Margarita (17-3) is seeded second and will host La Mesa Helix (24-12), the San Diego Section Division II runner-up. The Eagles won the Southern Section Division II-AA title Saturday, their second consecutive section title.
