Wisconsin defeated No. 24 Illinois State, 80-66, last week and gets forward Sam Okey back from a four-game suspension for violating team rules. The 6-foot-7 junior was the leading rebounder and second-leading scorer last season for the Badgers, who lost to Marquette in their opener. Guard Sean Mason leads Wisconsin with a 19-point average. Pepperdine’s transition game was effective in a 99-57 rout over Norfolk State on Friday after having problems with UC Irvine’s slow-down tactics in a 50-46 victory. Center omm’A Givens leads the Wave attack with a 14.5-point average, followed by guard Gerald Brown (13.0), forward Bryan Hill (12.0) and guard Jelani Gardner (11.5). History is not on Pepperdine’s side. The West Coast Conference is 1-16 against the Big Ten in the 1990s. The game has attracted the NBA’s attention, with seven teams arranging for scouting passes.
