Storm May Bring Inch of Rain by Thursday

The first major storm of the winter season should arrive today in Northern California, working its way down the coast to burst on Orange County late tonight or early Wednesday morning--just in time to snarl Thanksgiving Day travel.

Meteorologists predict that Orange County will see about half an inch to an inch of rain by Thursday, and inland areas may receive two inches.

“Especially if you have travel plans on Wednesday, you can prepare for slow-moving traffic and expect the rain to cause a lot of accidents,” said meteorologist John Sherwin of WeatherData in Wichita, Kan.

The good news about the storm is reserved for skiers and snowboarders.

Lake Tahoe and other northern ski areas could receive two feet of snow, and locally, Bear Mountain may get 10 inches, Sherwin said.

However severe the rains and snow, the storm “should definitely not be attributed to El Nino,” Sherwin said. “This is a normal storm for the rainy season, which typically begins in mid-November and goes to January.”
