Sheriff’s detectives are seeking three men suspected of shooting to death an El Monte teenager and wounding another youth in an incident in Valinda over the weekend.
Richard Mendoza, 16, and Michael Batrez, 19, of El Monte, were both shot in the chest with a rifle after a confrontation with three men early Saturday, authorities said.
Mendoza died at the scene in the 400 block of Mangate Avenue, said Sheriff’s Deputy Debra Glafkides. Batrez was taken to County-USC Medical Center and listed in stable condition, she said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives are seeking three men between the ages of 19 and 21 with slim builds and shaved heads. They were last seen driving a dark-colored truck near the scene of the shooting.
