Series of ‘Follow-Home’ Robberies Spurs Warning

Recent incidents of “follow-home” robberies have prompted police to urge drivers to be alert as they approach home.

Lt. Al Michelena of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Los Angeles Division said three robberies have occurred since September in which people driving expensive automobiles have been followed home and robbed at gunpoint in their garages.

The most recent robberies on Nov. 6 and Nov. 11 occurred north of Sunset Boulevard in Brentwood and Bel-Air, he said. An incident in September occurred in the Beverly Glen area north of Santa Monica Boulevard. Two of the robberies took place during the day.

Michelena said he does not believe the crimes were committed by the same suspects.

He urged drivers who fear they are being followed to take some evasive action, such as making a U-turn, and watch the reaction of the other car. Drivers should not go straight home if they feel they are being followed, he said.
