Re “Chief Parks Establishes Firm Hand in First 100 Days,” Nov. 19:
Since the inauguration of Chief Bernard Parks in August, I have had the need to call the police in my area two times. Once for loud music in my block, and a second time for a neighbor who was beating his girlfriend and shouting profanity in the middle of the night. On both occasions, the police responded within 15 minutes.
While it is difficult to pinpoint who is responsible for this great service at this time, whether it is the police chief himself, or the leaders of the station where I called, or the individual police who were at the scene fighting the crime, one thing I can say with certainty is that I didn’t get this kind of service when the former chief was in office.
Thanks to Parks and the Police Department. Please keep up the good work.

Re “Leaders Vow Better Police Monitoring,” Nov. 19: It’s getting pretty old. Everyone is trying to beat up on our police. Why not have more monitoring of City Council members? After all, one was recently arrested.
The men and women of the LAPD are some of the finest, hard-working people, who work for the city day in and day out.
As for the lawsuits related to police officers who make arrests, if the city attorney would take the lawsuits to trial instead of settling out of court, it might not give the appearance of wrongdoing by our officers.
