Mayor Tom Daly is proposing that the city donate $100,000 to the Anaheim Prep Sports-Activities Foundation.
The foundation raises money to pay for after-school sports and other programs for junior high and high school students.
The council is expected to consider the proposal at its Oct. 7 meeting.
Daly said the foundation is also seeking contributions from Anaheim companies and residents.
Among those pledging support is Disneyland, which donated $25,000, and the Mighty Ducks, which will offer proceeds from meals served to reporters, staff members and others who eat in the press dining room.
