Probe of Former Bank Guard Ends

Authorities dropped a criminal investigation of a former bank guard who rescued Holocaust-era documents from destruction. The Zurich district attorney’s office also dropped its probe of the chief archivist at Union Bank of Switzerland, who had released the papers for shredding. Former guard Christoph Meili found the ledgers, which documented loans from 1920 to 1926 and property dealings from 1930 to 1970. Their disclosure led to Meili’s dismissal and the probe into whether he violated bank privacy laws. He fled to the U.S. with his family in April, saying he had received threats, and was granted residency this week.
