Rendon Impresses as Kicker

Kicker Adam Rendon, trying to unseat starter Adam Abrams, appeared to easily win the daily field-goal competition Wednesday.
Rendon made three of four, and Abrams went one for five.
“We’ll make a decision by Saturday who kicks,” USC Coach John Robinson said, a day after saying, “We’re all tired of the misses.”
Abrams missed a 34-yard field-goal attempt and an extra point Saturday and said he has been “thinking too much.”
“I don’t mind competition,” Abrams said. “Hopefully it will make me better.”
Said Rendon: “Hopefully this week I’ll get my shot.”

Just when the offensive line seemed to have come together, starting tackle Phalen Pounds is questionable for Saturday’s game against Nevada Las Vegas after straining his shoulder in Wednesday’s practice. Rome Douglas, last season’s starter, will take his place if Pounds can’t play. . . . The Arizona State game on Oct. 11 in Tempe has been scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to accommodate television.
