Davis’ Flush Gives Oxnard Upper Hand, 48-42

Desmond Davis scored his fifth touchdown on a 64-yard run early in the fourth quarter to give Oxnard High a 20-point lead, and the Yellowjackets held off Santa Barbara, 48-42, in a Channel League opener Friday night at Oxnard.
Davis, a senior who gained 1,557 yards last season, rushed for 284 yards in 23 carries.
Oxnard fullback Chad Pierson added 160 yards in 15 carries and had a run of 68 yards that set up a four-yard scoring pass from Joe Rivas to Eric Swanger late in the third quarter.
Both teams scored six touchdowns, but Oxnard (3-1) was successful on all six two-point conversions while Santa Barbara (2-2) made six extra-point kicks. Davis scored on two of the conversions to give him 34 points.
Oxnard rushed for 426 yards and Rivas passed for 141 yards, completing 12 of 20 passes.
