Capistrano Valley 16, Atascadero 7--Visiting Capistrano Valley avenged last year’s loss in the playoffs to Atascadero. The Cougars (2-0-2) scored two touchdowns on turnovers and added a 31-yard field goal by back-up place kicker Bobby Taghavl. Taghavl replaced Gabriel Pietro, who missed field goals of 28 and 34 in the first half.

After managing only a field goal in the first half, Capistrano Valley scored its first touchdown in the third quarter. A fumble by Atascadero running back Treyvon Russell gave the Cougars the ball at the Greyhound three-yard line. Running back Ryan Gustafson took it in on the next play.
