Preservation Zone OKd for Area of Older Homes
- Share via
Residents of the Jacaranda-Malvern neighborhood have won permission to create a preservation zone for their homes, all built before the 1940s.
The zone designation, approved by the City Council on Tuesday, means the city will take a closer look at construction and remodeling projects to ensure compatibility with the architectural styles, size, scale and character of the neighborhood.
While 76% of the property owners in the area support the zoning, a few said it will create excessive government regulation and infringe on their property rights. One resident, Larry Klees, threatened to sue the city over the issue.
The council and local preservationists said the zone is not overly restrictive and will only benefit the city.
