Two men accused of shooting to death a 9-year-old Compton boy pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and attempted murder charges.
Victor Adegbenro, 22, and Tyrone Manley, 19, were held in lieu of $2 million bail each after their arraignment. Adegbenro is the accused triggerman in the shooting, an attack that prompted Compton to enact an 8 p.m. curfew and crack down on street gangs.
Police say the two men, along with at least two others--all believed to be gang members--were walking near a Compton transit station about 2:45 p.m. Monday when they spotted at least two rivals in a car.
Adegbenro opened fire, hitting Selwyin Leflore in the chest as he waited for a bus with his mother and two younger brothers, police said.
