Walk to Benefit Local AIDS Groups

The 1997 Walk for Life to benefit local AIDS groups, which is being billed as one of the largest pledge walks in Ventura County history, will be held Oct. 18 in downtown Ventura.
More than 1,000 walkers, runners and bicyclers are expected to raise $100,000 for the Ventura County AIDS Partnership, AIDS Care Inc. and Christopher’s Place, a hospice for patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
“I’m not sure why, but some folks still drive for hours into L.A. for their walk, which doesn’t benefit the fight against AIDS right here in Ventura County,” said Doug Green, executive director of AIDS Care Inc.
Last year, 700 walkers raised more than $83,000 at the fifth annual Ventura County AIDS Walk.
This year’s walk is on a 6.2-mile route that begins and ends where California Street meets the beach.
The walk’s grand marshal will be Rick Rossovich, an actor on USA Network’s series “Pacific Blue.”
The walker who raises the most money will win a trip for two to New York City to see the musical “Titanic.”
