District-Teachers Pact Boosts Pay, School Year

Pay raises and a slightly longer school year are part of an agreement ratified this week between the Garden Grove Unified School District and its teachers union.
The agreement calls for a 5% pay increase and a one-day extension of the school year to 180 days.
“This makes us one of few districts in the county to have 180 instructional days in the school year,” district spokesman Alan Trudell said.
The extension was made possible by state incentives for school districts to extend school years by one day. The new last day of school will be Wednesday, June 17, 1998.
The Garden Grove Education Assn. represents about 2,000 teachers, nurses and librarians.
