In a Northern Conference game:
Marshall 23, Verdugo Hills 8--Roderick Adams gave Verdugo Hills’ offense a boost by rushing for 125 yards in 10 carries, but the Dons fell at Verdugo Hills.
Adams, a sophomore, set up the only touchdown for Verdugo Hills (0-5, 0-2) on a 79-yard run late in the third quarter--the longest run from scrimmage for the Dons this season.
Two plays later, Alex Ponce scored on a two-yard run and Adams ran for a two-point conversion to cut Marshall’s lead to 16-8.
Marshall (2-3, 1-1) regained control with a 54-yard touchdown run by Kirk Cooper late in the third quarter.
Cooper, a sophomore, finished with 152 yards in 25 carries and John Guerrero had 107 yards in 10 carries to power a 315-yard rushing attack for Marshall.
Verdugo Hills, which has been outscored, 178-22, also hurt itself by losing two fumbles--both by Adams.
Verdugo Hills finished with a season-high 119 rushing yards but gained only nine yards passing. Quarterback Phillip Brathwaite complete one of seven passes.
