Irvine Valley Sweeps Fullerton in Women’s Volleyball

Laura Bonacker had 21 kills as Irvine Valley defeated Fullerton, 15-9, 15-10, 15-12, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match Friday at Irvine Valley.
Erika Riley contributed 15 kills and Amanda Martinez had five aces and four blocks for the Lasers (4-3, 1-1). Fullerton is 0-2 in conference play.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Irvine Valley 2, Fullerton 0--Felix Hernandez and Brad Olson each scored second-half goals to break a 0-0 halftime score for Irvine Valley (11-3-5, 2-0-2). Miljan Soskic made five saves to record the shutout.
Riverside 2, Orange Coast 1--Matthew Nolasco scored two first-half goals for Riverside (3-3-4, 2-1). Joost Nijssen scored in the 77th minute to avoid the shutout for Orange Coast (0-8-4, 0-3-1).
Santa Ana 6, Golden West 1--Orlando Suazo scored twice for Santa Ana (2-11, 2-2) in its victory over Golden West (1-7-4, 0-3). Paul Mierzwa scored for the Rustlers.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Irvine Valley 3, Fullerton 0--Catherine Currie scored the opening goal in the first half as Irvine Valley (6-5-1, 3-2) defeated Fullerton (4-7-2, 1-4).
Orange Coast 5, Riverside 0--Jessica Schroeder, Kelly Wilkin, Andrea Taylor, Kristin Sweetland and Malissa Thornhill scored goals for Orange Coast (10-2-2, 5-0).
In the Merced women’s water polo tournament:
Golden West 13, Merced 4--Lisa Saenz scored six goals and Nadine Akers had two in the victory for Golden West (19-0). Saenz had four goals in an earlier 12-1 victory over Modesto.
