1996 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre, Loire Valley ($16)
Vacheron’s ’96 Sancerre (which is even better than the ‘95, itself a former Wine of the Week) is as thirst-quenching as a drink from a mountain stream. The impression of cool green, minerals and a hard flintiness mark it as Sauvignon Blanc from the Sancerre region of the Loire valley. It’s superbly priced for a wine of this quality and will only improve with cellaring.
