Barbara DeHart to Be School Superintendent
- Share via
Barbara DeHart, who has served as interim superintendent since a controversial reorganization of the Westminster School District’s top post in May, has been given the permanent job.
At a closed-session meeting Sunday, the school board unanimously appointed DeHart, a district administrator since 1993. The five-member panel also appointed Sheri Jones, interim superintendent of personnel services, to that post permanently.
DeHart’s appointment does not come as a surprise to many school district observers, since her educational philosophies fit more closely with those of the conservative, three-member board majority.
In May, the board voted to buy out the contract of then-Supt. Gail Wickstrom, citing philosophical differences.
DeHart, 53, a former administrator in the Carpinteria Unified School District, holds a doctorate in educational administration from UC Santa Barbara.
Her salary will likely be discussed at the board’s Nov. 6 meeting.
