Joey Cuppari

Season at a glance: Cuppari leads the region with 51 receptions for 891 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is second in the area with 111 points. Cuppari has been instrumental in Westlake’s four-game winning streak since the start of Marmonte League play. “He’s the guy, from out offensive standpoint,” Westlake Coach Jim Benkert said. “We needed him to have a big season for us, and he’s really stepped up and done that.” On defense, Cuppari has two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.
Week at a glance: Cuppari (6 feet, 170 pounds) had five receptions for 161 yards and four touchdowns and was five for five on conversion kicks to account for 29 points in Westlake’s 35-13 victory over Thousand Oaks last Thursday.

Marissa Irvin
School: Harvard-Westlake
Year: Senior
Sports: Tennis
Season at a glance: Since winning the U.S. Open junior doubles title in early September, Irvin has found time in her busy tournament schedule to appear in almost half of the Wolverines’ matches. The top singles player has won 18 consecutive sets--losing only 16 games--while leading Harvard-Westlake (12-2, 9-0 in Mission League) to a No. 1 ranking in the Southern Section Division III.
Week at a glance: Irvin lost just two games in three sets as Harvard-Westlake defeated defending league champion Chaminade, 13-5, last Tuesday. On Wednesday, she won 6-2,6-0,6-0 in a 17-1 victory over Bishop Montgomery. Though she has yet to be tested, Irvin said: “It’s not hard to get motivated because I’m playing for my school. I love playing on this team.”
