Mervyn’s California has given $40,000 to the Pacific Symphony to support its 1997-98 Saturday family concerts, which will once again be called Mervyn’s Musical Mornings. The department store chain subsidized the series with gifts of $40,000 annually from 1984 to 1995. Last year, the naming sponsorship ended when Mervyn’s gave only $10,000 because of a drop in company profits, a store spokeswoman said. Accompanying the symphonic concerts, which begin this week at the Orange County Peforming Arts Center, is educational commentary by PSO assistant conductor Elizabeth Stoyanovich. Information: (714) 755-5799.
