Just in time for the new millennium, a state law will go into effect requiring new teachers to be computer literate.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2000, prospective teachers will have to demonstrate a competency with computers in the classroom as a condition of winning their teaching credentials. The new law, sponsored by Assemblywoman Kerry Mazzoni (D-San Rafael), was signed Tuesday.
Gov. Pete Wilson said the new law would also require veteran teachers to study “advanced computer-based technology,” with standards to be set by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
