NEW YORK — The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island were closed to the public Sunday because of disrupted water and sewer service to the island.
Incoming water service from Jersey City, N.J., was temporarily shut down while new meters were being installed, National Park Service officials said.
At the same time, outgoing sewer service was disrupted by a blocked pipe. The two problems were not related, officials said.
The island is expected to reopen today.
