South Coast Metro Designation Advances
City officials showed support this week for freeway signs that would identify the South Coast Metro area, a semi-urban mix of businesses, shops and eateries near South Coast Plaza.
The City Council reviewed the proposal in a session Monday attended by Santa Ana city employees, because the area includes portions of that city.
Costa Mesa identifies South Coast Metro as bordered by the San Diego Freeway and the San Joaquin Hills tollway on the south, the Costa Mesa Freeway on the east, Sunflower Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard on the north and the Santa Ana River on the west.
The council will vote Monday on whether to identify the area as a “destination,” a Caltrans requirement for the white-on-green signs that direct drivers to Disneyland, Little Saigon and other attractions.
